OCT 10 SESSION TEAM FIRST MENTALITY

Process goals not result goals

Team first mentality

  • what do you and what did the team do well

“The Great player is the one that makes the players around them better” Phil Jackson

Takes everyone pushing in the same direction

3 Keys To Winning

  1. Players know their roles (system, game plan, role, abcs)

  2. We is bigger then me

  3. Players must respect one another (stand up for one another, have each other’s back and how you play for them on the court, and the work that you put in off the court)

  4. Show respect by cleaning up after yourself and how you help when help is needed on and off the court

Team First Mentality

  • It starts in practice

  • Character players emerge in hard times, it’s easy to be a good teammate when things are going your way

  • Willingness to support teammates no matter what

  • Show belief in your teammates and never hang your head if on a team with maybe not the best player

You won’t remember the wins, losses and stats you will remember the relationships and how you felt

Game Changers

  • You have to play every play as if it is the last

  • 80 possessions but it will come down to 1-2 that make the different and you have to play every possession as if it is the final possession

On a team everyone makes a difference

  • what kind of difference do you make

  • Add or retract to the team

  • It is up to you how you live, treat people and play

Team success often means individual success too

Servant Leaders

  • Lead by example

  • Serve tour teammates

  • Model behaviour

  • Treat others how you want to be treated

  • Establish positive relationships with teammates

What kind of difference do you want to make

  • Positive

  • Neutral

  • Negative

You may not get an extra chance like the players who work hard, show respect, and are good teammates

Set being a great teammate as a goal

  • how you talk to yourself and how you talk to your teammates is crucial

  • Everyone is a difference maker

  • Be kind of teammates your want others to be

  • Can others count on you?

Who’s your favourite teammate of all time? Least favourite? Why?

Only takes a little cancer to infect a whole team

Leave people better then you found them

It doesn’t take a lot to make things not as good as they could be (only takes a little bad attitude)

What kind of teammate are you?

  • Reflect on what kind of teammate you are

  • Goal set what you can do to be a better teammate

  • Write it, Do it. be it

Pair Up Exercise

  • Say a positive strength they bring and one one thing they could bring more of
